In this review, we will only be discussing the “Battle Royale” section of Fortnite. We may cover the PvE part of the game later down the line.
Fortnite is a very interesting game. It has literally taken the world by storm and is continuing to grow to be even bigger than games such as Minecraft, PUBG etc. It has amassed worldwide appeal by all gamers across social media, this game is literally the biggest thing in gaming right now. Us here at GameDroid have put quite a few hours into this game ourselves, today we’ll give you our verdict on Fortnite Battle Royale.
Gameplay The gameplay in Fortnite is very similar to that of most third person action shooters. However the difference between this game and those games is that this game is just a giant match of free-for-all against 100 players all at the same time, all on one giant map. The player to survive the longest in a game is the winner. You can do many things to ensure victory for yourself. You can fight using guns you find and you can craft defenses and build structures using resources that you find from destroying trees, structures etc.

The crafting mechanics in this game really does make it stand out when compared to other similar games such as PUBG. Being about to build walls etc whenever you want really does change the way how you play these type of games. You also have the guns which are a joy to use when you get them, you have different rarities of the same gun which are either more powerful or weaker.
When it comes to actually winning a game, it actually takes quite a lot of skill to pull off as you have to have your wits about you. If your not careful I guarantee you will not make it to the end. You cannot hide on one spot of the map either, as the map every so often will get smaller and smaller. You have to constantly move forward at all times. Of course, as much as the game is all about skill… This can also be seen as the games biggest downfall especially for newer players as they will continuously get killed which could cause frustration. But at the same time, it's nice to have a game which isn’t about being lucky all the time.
You can play this game solo or in a squad with friends. Playing in Squads really adds to the overall gameplay as playing with your friends or with random people is definitely a lot better than playing on your own. However this game isn’t without its gameplay flaws. Often you may find some certain glitches within the game, some of which are either game breaking or very minor. Now we are aware that this game is still in early access but there are definitely a lot of things that need to be ironed out to make this game perfect.

Overall the gameplay in Fortnite is an incredible experience but it isn’t without its issues which need to be worked on. The fact that this game requires the player to have actual skill is both a blessing and a curse, on one hand it's the first online game in a while which requires the players full attention but at the same time it's not friendly for the casual player to get into. But with the amount of different variables that this game has, it is always mostly entertaining and it really feels amazing to get that Victory Royale.
Visuals The visuals in Fortnite are really good and it certainly stands out from its competitors such as PUBG due to its cartoonish and cel-shaded style of graphics. The way how objects wobble when you go too destroy them looks really satisfying as well. This game just has a great sense of character and the fact that it doesn’t have realistic graphics really adds to the experience. You can also get cosmetics to help customise your experience, these look pretty great as well. Overall the visuals really help to make this game stand out from the competition and is one of the nicest looking online games out there.

Microtransactions Before we end this review, I just wanted to talk about the games microtransactions. Usually i’m not a huge fan of microtransactions but in this game i can forgive the developers due to the volume of content in a free game such as Fortnite. But at the same time the amount of money you have to pay for literally just a skin is a tad ridiculous. You can get a pass known as the Battle Pass which is the best value for your money in this game as you can unlock lots of goodies with it. Don’t ever buy skins etc individually as I believe it is a waste of moneyz.
Verdict Overall Fortnite Battle Royale is an incredible online game and deserves the attention that it is getting, it is a fun and rewarding experience but can also be the complete opposite which some may find annoying. The only downside to this game really is that there is still plenty of work to be done, there are some annoying glitches here and there which can halt the enjoyment and some things just feel unfinished. In all fairness though, this is an early access so i will revisit this game and re-review it later in the year.
